Script to Install, Update, Upgrade and add PPAs

I find myself often adding PPAs to try out many different applications. Doing this is not as simple as it could be. By default this requires several steps.

  • sudo add-apt-repository ppa:app/ppa
  • sudo apt-get update
  • sudo apt-get upgrade
  • sudo apt-get install app

To simplify this I have created a bash script that can install apps and add PPA in one simple command. To install an app run sau package. To install multiple apps run sau "package1 package2". To install an app and add a ppa run sau package ppa:app/ppa. To install multiple apps and add a PPA run sau "package1 package2" ppa:app/ppa.

There are some limitations due to my lack of skill. To add a PPA you must install an app. To get around installing another app, install an app is already installed. The other known limitation prevents adding multiple PPAs.

To install it download it here. Move it to /usr/bin/ and mark it as executable.
