Drop Down Terminal For Ubuntu

Drop down terminals are terminal inspired by consoles in games like Quake.

They are very useful if you need to quickly enter terminal and they are easily launched with one key.

Tilda

Most popular drop down terminals are Guake, Tilda and Yakuake.

In this post i will talk only about Guake and Tilda, i will not mention Yakuake because it is drop down terminal for KDE.

Guake

Guake and Tilda are practically same, the may difference between this two is customization.

On Tilda you can customize height, width, position of terminal, also you can turn on "animated pulldown". It is buggy sometime but it looks cool.

On Guake you are stuck that teminal is always on top.

Also one good feature of Tilda is that you can disable showing on all workplaces.
Compare to Tilda, Guake have more customizable keyboard shortcuts settings.

Both Guake, Tilda (Yakuake) can be installed from Ubuntu Software Center.

Now it's only on you to decide witch fits better for you, Tilda, Guake or Yakuake if you are KDE user.
