People who have Asus K50AB (HDA ATI SB VIA VT1708S) laptops know there are problem with sound on Ubutnu and other Linux distributions.
Main problems are that headphones jack in not working (not muting speakers) and microphone is not working.
You can fix this problems by installing latest Alsa Drivers Modules.
Open terminal and type:
Now restart to take effect.
Also make sure that in Sound Preferences in Output for Connector is selected Analog Speakers
If you have problems with new Alsa Drivers you can remove them.
