Dropbox Givaway

I'm sure you heard of Dropbox, the popular cross platform file syncing tool. It is very useful for backing up data as it will keep a copy of you data in the cloud. Another useful feature is the web interface. If you are at school or work you can still access you Dropbox files. If you would like to sign up for Dropbox, visit this link. Both you and I will receive and extra 250 MB thanks to Dropbox's referral program.

The details about the giveaway are at the end of this post.

To install Dropbox in Ubuntu, run the following commands:
  • add deb http://linux.dropbox.com/ubuntu VERSION main" to /etc/apt/sources.list
  • sudo apt-get update
  • sudo apt-get install nautilus-dropbox
When you first run  Dropbox, this dialog will open asking you to install the proprietary daemon. Click "OK", and the installation will begin.
Wait while the daemon is downloaded and installed.

After the daemon has been installed, a dialog will open to allow you to set up you account. If you already have an account, select the second radio button and click forward.

After filling in you email, password and computer name click forward.

When you get to this screen click forward unless you want to pay for extra storage.

Now you can view a tour of Dropbox. Click Forward to see the rest of the tour.

After the tour has finished, you can specify a custom location for your Dropbox folder.

Now to the giveaway part of the post... Dropbox has been very generous, and has given us three 10 GB accounts to give away. Anyone who comments on this post in entered to win. You must post your comment by Friday September 24 and the winners will be posted the following Monday. The winners will be selected using Random.org

Update: One week and 700+ comments later it's Friday. That means I am closing the comments. I would like to wish everyone good luck. I will be announcing the winners on Monday.

Update 2: I have posted the winners here.

I'd go crazy with 10 gigs LOL! I use Dropbox with Ubuntu. I collaborate with my band using it, so any new ideas get popped in there and everyones up to date! It actually makes email attachments seem cumbersome.

uhuuu 10GB... give it to me :D I'll use it for sure...

One question: when you say "http://linux.dropbox.com/ubuntu VERSION main", would version mean maverick or lucid? I tried both but didn't work.

Another thing, if we can't get 10GB at least we can get extra 250MB. Do you want extra 250MB? Just go on this link: http://db.tt/aGjWoXA

And we both get extra 250MB... easy like that

My dropbox account is under emaildoluc@yahoo.com.br

Now you know where to credit my 10GB :D
