What Is New In Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha 3

Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha 3 is released and it brings many changes compare to Alpha 2.


  • Gnome/Kernel

Ubuntu 10.04 alpha 3 comes with 2.6.32-14 generic Linux kernel and Gnome 2.29.91 (build date 2/22/2010)



  • Boot

Alpha 3 is now faster than ever! Live CD boot much faster than Ubuntu 9.10.

  • Drivers/Plymouth

Plymouth has now been integrated, Nouveau nVidia drivers have been integrated and enabled for nVidiad users. Ati/Intel have KMS support.


  • Software

Gimp/Open Office

Gimp has been finally removed and it doesn't come pre-installed, if You want You can install it from Software Center (Featured category).
There is no Open Office installed, I don't know why. I don't remember that they droped it...

Simple Scan

Simple Scan has now been included, Simple Scan is replacement for Xsane.



Gwibber

Gwibber has now been included in Ubuntu 10.04 as part of MeMenu.



Universal Access

Universal Access category has now been added applications menu, it contains onBoard (on screen keyboard) and onBoard Settings.



Software Centre

Software Centre now include PPA views, Featured category, star ratings and reviews.


System/Preferences

Preferences have 3 new items.
Gwibber Social Accounts (accounts setting for gwibber)
Gwibber Social Settings (gwibber setings)
Messaging and VoIP Accounts (emphathy accounts settings)



  • Notification Area

Network Manager

In network manager You can now enable and disable notifications.


Volume Manager

Volume manager have new look



Messaging Menu

Messaging Menu is changed, it now show icons and gwibber in included.


MeMenu

MeMenu is included in alpha 3, form MeMenu You can update Your emphathy, twitter, facebook etc. statuses. Read more about MeMenu here.



  • Misc.

Last but most important many bug fixes, security and application updates. Also some icons in Humanity have been changed, logo, weather, Rhythmbox, UbuntuOne, MeMenu...
